A big boat for big tuna was launched this week in Ellsworth by a Lamoine based boat company. FV-Tuna.com was built at S.W. Boatworks for Captain Dave Carraro of the popular reality TV show “Wicked Tuna”.
The boat, which was built over a period of about 14 months, broke water Thursday on the Ellsworth waterfront. Carraro tells Star 97.7, he came to Downeast Maine for his new 44 foot Calvin Beal boat because multiple people told him S.W. Boatworks had a solid reputation.
Carraro says he chose the wide design of the Calvin Beal boat because it provides additional cockpit space and stability. S.W. Boatworks owner Stewart Workman says he and wife Alice had to brush up on their reality TV but were happy to build a boat for Carraro and now they’ll put the finishing touches on the new boat in the next week. Workman says the majority of the supplies and work on the vessel were done by Maine sourced suppliers and builders.
