Winter Harbor Ferry
(Winter Harbor) – The boat serving as the Schoodic Ferry between Winter Harbor and Bar Harbor needs about $100-thousand dollars worth of work to keep operating next summer. The Mt. Desert Islander reports vandalism and then storm damage left the non-profit ferry service with costly repairs to make. The Marine Patrol continues to investigate the vandalism to the Katie Grace, a yellow hulled lobster type boat that carries passengers between Winter Harbor and the College of the Atlantic. The vandals damaged an air intake valve and tore wires out of communications equipment. The storm caused some structural damage when the boat washed up on a beach near the Maine Seacoast Mission.

SW Harbor – Town Vehicles
(Southwest Harbor) – Southwest Harbor’s town manager is recommending that the community obtain vehicles for the Harbor Master and himself to avoid potential liability problems. The Mt. Desert Islander reports manager Don LaGrange uses his own vehicle while on town business and is reimbursed for mileage. LaGrange says should there be an accident while on town business, town insurance does not cover him. Selectmen will consider a lease/purchase option a week from tonight.

Bangor Robbery
(Bangor) – A robber is on the loose in Bangor after a weekend hold up at a convenience store. The Bangor Police Department has posted video taken at the heist at the Big Apple store hold up. It shows a man dressed in black directing a clerk to open the cash drawer, and the same man running across the parking lot. You can’t see a face, but Sergeant Tim Cotton writes that perhaps someone might recognize his gait or had someone show up somewhere early Saturday morning out of breath. The robbery remains under investigation.
