Great news from Healthy Acadia:
“Healthy Acadia, in partnership with Healthy Peninsula and with support from the Community Caring Collaborative, is thrilled to announce the launch of a new pilot program entitled, “Hancock County Early Childhood Consultation and Outreach” (ECCO). ECCO will provide significant long-term improvements to the health and success of children through direct consultations, training, and outreach in early childhood development. Consultations will be offered to parents, child care providers, teachers and caregivers on a referral basis and trainings will be coordinated through child care facilities and schools.
“Supporting early childhood social, emotional, and cognitive development is a critical need in our communities and a passion for us.” said Elsie Flemings, Executive Director of Healthy Acadia. “Research shows that child development has significant impacts to an individual’s health, wellbeing, and success throughout their lifetime.”
ECCO is modeled after the “Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation” program developed at Georgetown University, which is founded on rigorous research and best practices. It was adapted for rural communities in Washington County by the Community Caring Collaborative (CCC). “ECCO in Washington County” has grown under the direction of the CCC over the past 10 years, achieving success in improving the health and development of children throughout the region.
Healthy Acadia and Healthy Peninsula are eager to implement a pilot of this effective, proven program in Hancock County beginning in April 2017, with the support and guidance of their Washington County partners at the Community Caring Collaborative and with support from the Downeast Public Health Council. A candidate search is underway for a part-time ECCO consultant position. Visit www.HealthyAcadia.org for a full position description.
