From the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office:
“On today’s date (12/06/17) at approximately 0801 HRS, the Waldo County Regional
Communications Center received a telephone call reporting a single vehicle crash on
North Mountain Valley Highway in the Town of Montville near the intersections of
Randlett and Morse Roads.
Waldo County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with Montville and Freedom Fire and
Liberty Rescue were dispatched to the scene. Soon after their arrival, a Paramedic
from Belfast Fire and Ambulance was summoned to the scene as well.
Despite immediate life saving measures taken by witnesses, passerby’s, and
first responders, the operator and sole occupant of the vehicle succumbed to his
injuries at the scene.
The deceased, Riley Boulay, was 16 years old from Liberty. Boulay was a
student at Mount View High School in Thorndike and on his way to school this
morning when the crash occurred.
Speed appears to be the primary contributing factor in the crash. The
vehicle involved, a 2001 Volkswagen Beetle, was traveling north when the operator
lost control and ultimately left the roadway to the left, striking multiple trees. The
crash remains under investigation by the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office. The primary
investigator is Deputy Kevin Littlefield.
Administrators and Staff of the Mount View School district have assembled
crisis teams to help students, families and community members cope with this
tragedy. All after school activities have been cancelled today. The Mount View High
School will remain open until 7:00pm this evening to make those services available.”
