Blue Hill Missing Funds

 

(Blue Hill) – Blue Hill town officials have filed an insurance claim to try to recover missing money.  The Ellsworth American reports Selectmen met with the Hancock County sheriff’s department behind closed doors in recent weeks, but no charges have resulted yet.  The former town treasurer, Jody Murphy, has denied taking any money.  She resigned a few months ago after town officials say more than $10-thousand dollars is unaccounted for.

 

Millinocket Fire

(Millinocket) – The fire marshal’s office is investigating a blaze that left two people injured in Millinocket yesterday.  WABI-TV reports an employee at a Dead River Company maintenance garage suffered injuries when the fire broke out as he worked on a propane truck.  A firefighter suffered injuries when ice fell from the garage roof and struck him.  Firefighters managed to keep the propane truck cool during the fire and got it out of the building without explosion.

 

Murder Sentences

 

(Bangor) – A judge has sentenced two Brooklyn New York men to prison for a 2015 drug related murder in Bangor.  38-year old Thomas Ferguson who gave the orders to shoot 38-year old Robert Kennedy and another man will spend 50-years in prison.  The trigger man, 28-year old Robert Hansley, will spend 40-years in the lockup.  The killing on Center Street came after Ferguson and Hansley came to Bangor to collect a drug debt.

 

Body Recovered

(St. George) – Divers recovered a missing clam diggers body from a cove in Tenants Harbor after searching for him for several days.  35-year old Paul Benner of Thomaston vanished last Thursday during the blizzard.  The Marine Patrol used side-scan sonar and discovered the body in Long Cove.  His father reported him missing late Thursday night and his abandoned boat turned up in the same cove.

 

Attempted Murder

(Belmont) – Deputies in Waldo County have charged a Belmont man with attempted murder after a stabbing reported last Friday in Belmont.  The Sheriff’s Department tells Star 97.7 they caught up with 25-year old Jetton Whiting who’d gotten into an argument with the 64-year old victim who survived his injuries.  They’d gotten a tip that Whiting was hiding in an unoccupied home.  He’s held without bail.

 

Weather Death

(Ellsworth) – A 54-year old man is dead after his car broke down in Ellsworth and he left the vehicle.  Paul Bouffard was headed to visit family during last Thursday’s blizzard and got stuck off Turnbull Road.  The next day police found Bouffard’s body about 20-feet from his vehicle.  Officers say he was not dressed in a way that indicated he  planned to be outside.

 

Quitting Smoking

(Local) A common New Year’s resolution is to quit smoking. If that’s one of your goals this year Healthy Acadia spokeswoman Tara Young says science shows the most effective way to quit smoking is a combination of medication and counseling.

 

Legislators & Citizens

(Augusta) A lobbying group wants to give its members a chance to rub elbows with lawmakers as AARP Maine begins its series “Tuesdays at the State House” today. Advocacy director Amy Gallant says they hold the event weekly. The program starts at 9 this morning as volunteers welcome legislators back to the State House, then participate in a tour and lunch.

 

Dunlap on Election Commission

(Portland) Maine’s top election official isn’t giving up on his court battle for documents from the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity on which he served. Secretary of State Matt Dunlap, a Democrat, said Monday that his legal team will go back to court to ask a judge to order the release of the documents. President Donald Trump disbanded the panel last week.

 

Suspicious Death

(Portland) Police in Portland are investigating a death they say is suspicious. Police say the body was discovered on Sunday night in a house in the Riverton section of the city. On Monday morning they blocked off the street where the body was found.
