(Embden) – A fatal motorcycle crash is reported in the town of Embden. WABI-TV reports it happened on the Kennebec River Road at about 6-o’clock last night. Firefighters and police responded to the scene to find a woman dead. Details about the crash including the woman’s name have not yet been released.
Stolen Police Cruiser
(Dexter) State police say the 22-year-old man in handcuffs that allegedly stole a Dexter police cruiser was listed in critical condition at EMMC in Bangor. Police issued a public warning on Friday that Tyler Tibbetts was considered armed and dangerous. Police found the fully marked white Ford Explorer abandoned in Garland. But Tibbetts allegedly led police on a high speed chase using another vehicle until he crashed on Route 15 in Corinth.
(Undated) – High fire danger continued during the weekend and forest rangers joined local firefighters at scenes of numerous small wildfires. The low humidity and high winds created the high fire danger, meaning that any outdoor fire had the chance to quickly spread. None of the fires turned into major losses, though some structures have gone up in flames during the past two weeks. Forest rangers remind people that even if a permit is not required for a cooking or heating fire, those who lit it have to make sure it’s completely out.
(Skowhegan) The Fairfield man convicted killing his wife in 2016 and burying her body in the backyard of his parents’ home was sentenced to 55 years in prison. Luc Tieman maintains his innocence, but a jury convicted him of murder last month. WABI-TV reports the Army veteran originally told investigators his wife disappeared at a local Walmart but he later changed his story to say she died from a heroin overdose. An autopsy showed 34-year-old Valerie Tieman died from two gunshots.
Teachers of the Year
(Washington Cty) The Department of Education has announced the 2018 Teachers of the Year for all of Maine’s 16 counties. In Washington County the honor goes to Washington Academy math teacher Kailee Colbeth. Colbeth tells Star 97-7 she was speechless at first and she’s grateful to those who support her.
(Hancock Cty) The Maine Department of Education has announced the Teacher of the Year in each county. Special education teacher Jennifer Farnsworth won the Hancock County recognition. She tells Star 97-7 it’s a privilege working at Hancock Grammar School. The Teacher of the Year selected in Washington County is Kailee Colbeth from Washington Academy, and in Waldo County it’s David Coffey from Belfast Area High School and Troy Howard Middle School.
Bucksport Town Manager
(Bucksport) The town of Bucksport is so happy with its town manager that town councilors voted to extend her contract and give her a raise. The Ellsworth American reports the council voted last week to extend Susan Lessard’s contract through 2022 and to give her a cost of living adjustment and step increase. Bucksport mayor David Keene tells the newspaper Lessard has gotten “rave reviews” from residents.
(Bangor) – Police have charged a Bangor man with numerous drug related crimes after making a probation check. The Bangor Police Department tells Star 97.7 they checked a Crestmont Road home where 36-year old Kareen Barker lives after receiving information about drug activity. While officers searched his bedroom, he tried to run out a back door and got into a struggle with officers, who handcuffed him. They search yielded crack cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and nearly $2-thousand dollars in cash.
