Milford Drug Bust
(Milford) – Drug agents seized 50-grams of cocaine base and 30-grams of heroin from a Milford woman’s home and charged her with drug trafficking. The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency reports to Star 97-7 that 45-year old Olivia Dunn is held on $50-thousand dollars bail at the Penobscot County Jail. They’ve been investigating her for the past three months. In addition to the drugs, agents seized a gun and cash. More arrests are likely.
(Hancock) – A crash that involved a pair of dump trucks and a passenger vehicle injured two people in Hancock yesterday. The town’s fire chief reports his firefighters had to cut one person out of a wrecked vehicle. State police are investigating the crash at the intersection of Route 1 and the Mud Creek Road. It’s not known how serious the injuries were, but none are believed to be life threatening.
(Waldoboro) – Two people are hospitalized with severe burns after a house they were staying in blew up last night in Waldoboro. The Pen Bay Pilot reports firefighters got the call just before 8-thirty last night and rush to the scene to find the building in flames and the two victims outside the building. There was little left of the house on Dutch Neck Road to save. The fire marshal’s office was on scene late last evening and returns today to investigate.
(Augusta) – Couriers started showing up at town offices across Maine yesterday to collect memory sticks and hand counted ballots as the Secretary of State’s office goes about the complex business of ranking the votes in the Democratic primaries for Governor and 2nd Congressional District. The collection should wrap up today. Officials say they hope to have the rankings complete next week. None of the 7-candidates seeking the Democrat nomination for governor came close to receiving a majority of the votes.
(Livermore Falls) – Authorities have identified a 66-year old man who died in a house fire in Livermore falls this week. Peter Dyer rented the house and lived there with other relatives. The fire started in a 1st floor living room where firefighters found his body. Two brothers aged 13 and 11 had to jump from an upper story window to escape the flames. Fire Marshal’s office investigators report to Star 97.7 they were not able to determine the fire’s cause because of extensive damage.
(Norridgewock) – Three firefighters suffered from heat exhaustion while they battled a blaze at a landfill in Norridgewock. Spontaneous combustion in a small, seldom used part of the 115-acre landfill likely caused the fire. The Norridgewock Fire Department responded to the landfill at 2:20 Tuesday afternoon. All three firefighters received treatment for heat stress and smoke inhalation and the hospital in Skowhegan released them and they’re back on duty. 7-communities sent firefighters and equipment to the scene.
(Baileyville) Baileyville police have recovered stolen goods thanks posting about the items on Facebook. An officer in Princeton this week looking for a stolen truck instead spotted an outboard motor similar to one stolen in Woodland a few weeks ago. Shortly afterward, a resident called saying that motor showed up at the residence about the same time it was posted missing. An investigation led to the arrest of 53-year-old Kevin Croman of Baileyville. The stolen truck was also recovered on a woods road in Waite. Baileyville police are still looking for a missing red Honda dirt bike.
Jonesport Nursing Home Closing
(Jonesport) – A nursing home in Jonesport will close down at the end of August, sending residents to facilities in Milbridge and Machias. The Department of Labor will work with the 38-people at the Sunrise Care Facility to find new jobs. The nursing home housed 21 patients. WABI-TV reports financial problems including reduced Maine Care Funding, led to the decision to close.
