(Ellsworth) Four candidates are running to fill two seats on the Ellsworth City Council after two incumbents chose not to run again. City councilors Stephen Beathem and Bob Crosthwaite have served on the council for years but decided not to seek reelection. Ellsworth voters were asked to choose between John Phillips, Gene Lyons, Heather Grindle or David Burks. Polls closed at 8 PM.

(AP)Polls have closed across the East Coast, but the results in some of the most closely watched races remain too close to call. Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders easily won his third term as he considers another bid for the Democratic presidential nomination. And Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, another potential 2020 contender, also won her race.

(BDN) Despite the occasional ballot glitch, and momentary confusion, The Bangor Daily News reports that election officials throughout the state report a smooth deployment of ranked-choice voting. Throwing some voters into confusion was the the two different voting methods printed on either side of the same ballot, causing many of the ballots to be “spoiled” and replaced with a fresh one with voters not paying attention to the instructions. If towns run out of ballots, they have to call state officials for permission to use the absentee ballots. In Bar Harbor voters were stuck in longer lines waiting to cast their ranked-choice ballots in a separate machine from the rest.

Governor race 1% reported

Janet Mills (D) – 691 (48%)
Shawn Moody (R) – 667 (46%)
Terry Hayes (I) – 90 (6%)

Total Votes (So Far): 1448
