(Bangor) – No injuries at Bangor International Airport when a small plane landed and it’s front wheel collapsed causing the propeller to hit the ground. Airport manager Tony Caruso says the mishap occurred yesterday afternoon and briefly shut down runways. One person was in the plane owned by a local cardiologist.
Point Lookout Closing
(Northport) – A resort vacation spot and wedding venue that employs about 70-people in Waldo County is closing down at year’s end. Point Lookout began as a corporate retreat for the MBNA credit card company decades ago. When MBNA sold, the complex became a resort complex and was a very popular wedding venue. Athena Health sold the facilities in March, and the new owner says keeping it in operation is not feasible.
(Thomaston) – Petitions are circulating in the mid-coast town of Thomaston attempting to collect enough signatures to force a recall vote of one of the town’s Selectmen. Village Soup dot-com reports voters upset with how recently elected Selectman Beverly St. Clair has interacted with town officials started the recall petition a few days ago. The town’s ordinances require at least 133-signatures to force the issue to a vote. Town Manager Valmore Blastow recently resigned, citing St. Clair as the reason for stepping down after working for the town for 28-years.
Trenton Bridge Painting
(Trenton) Contractors will begin painting the Trenton Bridge today or tomorrow. Maine Department of Transportation bridge program manager Wayne Frankhauser tells Star 97-7 the bulk of the work will take place during the day, but he says day-time traffic should not be impacted much. Frankhauser says the work should be completed by July 1st. If it’s not, he says the contractors would return to finish the job sometime after September.
(Bangor) – Maine’s Medical Examiner has confirmed remains found in the woods of Bangor are those of a missing transient who fled from police last September. Searchers had kept looking for 47-year old Thomas Lynch over the winter, and game wardens found his remains in April. Authorities did not say how he died.
(Portland) – A jury is picked to hear the murder case against accused cop killer John Williams. He’s accused of gunning down Somerset County Corporal Eugene Cole in April 2018. The trial will take place in Portland. Jury selection wrapped up after a couple of days. Investigators say Williams confessed to shooting Cole because Cole had arrested Williams girlfriend on drug charges. Williams’ attorney said the confession was coerced after police beat the tired and hungry suspect they caught after a massive, 4-day manhunt in the Norridgewock area.
(Waldoboro) A Waldoboro woman agreed to forfeit more than $10-thousand-dollars and surrender a handgun as part of a plea deal in which the state dismissed some serious charges. 54-year-old Kimberly Reynolds and her 71-year-old mother were arrested in October 2017 for selling Oxycodone. Police seized 350 pills, 4 guns and $13-thousand-dollars in cash from her mother’s Jefferson home. Reynolds pleaded guilty last week to Furnishing Drugs while the Aggravated Trafficking charge was dropped. The Bangor Daily News reports Reynolds’ mother was sentenced earlier this year.
(Bangor) The annual bike auction to benefit the Bangor Police Department’s Community Service Fund is this Saturday. Bidder registration and the auction preview begins at 9 AM inside the gymnasium at the Parks and Rec Department on Main Street. Over 80 bikes will be auctioned off starting at 10 AM, while the inventory lasts.
(Augusta) Maine could join 17 states that ban kids from using tanning beds. The effort has failed in years past. Supporters point to research indicating overexposure to ultraviolet light happens more commonly in teens and increases the chance of skin cancer later on. The American Academy of Dermatology says over half of indoor tanners started tanning before age 21, while one-third started before age 18.
