Logging Death

(Ellsworth) – Authorities say a Sorrento man who died sometime late last week in Ellsworth suffered injuries while logging.  The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department reports to Star 97.7 that they responded to a call from the man’ wife early Friday morning.  She reported her husband did not return home from logging that night.  Deputies Dakota Dupuis and Dan Harland and Ellsworth officer Adam Bouchard found the man’s body a long distance into the woods.  The Ellsworth police department is investigating the incident and said the death is not suspicious.  They’ve not yet released the man’s identity.

Search Suspended

(Kennebunkport) – The Coast Guard suspended its search for a man and three children after searching hundreds of square miles of water off Kennebunkport.  Now the agency wonders if the distress call received Saturday morning was legitimate.  The radio caller claims to have been in a 14-foot john boat several miles offshore.  The caller said the boat capsized and the four were huddled together in the freezing water in life jackets.  No one has been reported missing in the area.

Diverted Plane

(Bangor) – A United Airlines jet with more than 200-passengers and crew on board landed safely in Bangor after losing cabin pressure overnight.  The plane took off from San Francisco and was headed to Amsterdam.  Passengers got hotel rooms for the night and will take off from Bangor for Newark this morning and then head to their destination.  Bangor occasionally sees planes with trouble land as it’s the last US airport before the ocean for aircraft headed overseas.

Park Visitation Down

(Acadia Ntl. Park) – Figures from the National Park Service show a drop in park visitation for 2019 through August.  The Mt. Desert Islander reports park visits dropped for the first time in eight years when compared to the previous year.  Through August, park visitation fell 2-point-3 percent overall.  However, more people visited the park by motor coach transport and on the Island Explorer buses.
