Alleged Dog Killer Captured

(Gouldsboro) – Police in Gouldsboro say they’ve captured a 38-year old man who is accused in the death of his former boss’s dog.  Nathan Burke was last seen in August after he was charged with violating bail conditions following a complaint at Lamoine State Park.  Police responding to a domestic violence call in Gouldsboro captured Burke on Saturday.  He and another man were accused of killing a pug mix named Franky after the dog’s carcass washed ashore on a beach that District Attorney Matthew Foster owns.  The other man, Justin Chipman, was convicted, but Burke never showed up for his trial.

 

Augusta Double Fatal

 

(Augusta) – Two people from Windsor died when their car flipped over early Saturday morning in Augusta.  Police report to Star 97.7 that 52-year old David Smith and 46-year old Lisa Pelletier were dead at the North Belfast Avenue scene when they responded just before 1-o’clock in the morning.  Their Toyota Camry was on its roof near the intersection with Pipeline Road.  It was the only vehicle involved in the crash which remains under investigation.

 

 

Fatal Crash – Columbia

 

(Columbia) – Two Washington County residents died when the vehicle they were in crossed the center line and slammed into a tractor trailer truck on Friday afternoon.  The Washington County Sheriff’s Department reports to Star 97.7 they’re not sure why 43-year old Angela Skidgel of East Machias got onto the wrong side of the road.  She survived, but 83-year old Darold Ames and 14-year old Gavin Skidgel did not.  The truck driver had no chance to avoid the crash.  He survived with minor injuries.

 

Drive By Shootings

(Waterville) – Two people are under arrest following reported drive-by shootings in Waterville.  Charged are 25-year old Dana DaSilva and 25-year old Michelle Luce, both of Skowhegan.  People in Waterville started reporting that gunshots Saturday night.  WGME-TV reports that the gunfire was apparently part of some sort of domestic dispute and the targeted homes in Waterville and Clinton were not at random.  DaSilva is charged aggravated elevated assault among other charges, and Luce is charged with hindering apprehension.

 

Horse Rescue

(Liberty) – Firefighters in Waldo County rescued a horse from a freezing stream yesterday.  Liberty firefighters helped get the horse out of the water with a neighbor who used a tractor to pull the horse onto shore. Village Soup dot-com reports the horse named Marla had wandered onto the icy stream adjacent to True’s Pond and broke through the ice.  Firefighters wrapped the animal in blankets to try to warm her up.  Authorities say the next couple of days will tell whether the horse will survive the cold ordeal.

 

Vehicle Burglaries

(Rockport) – Burglars hit seven vehicles in a single day in Rockport. The Pen Bay Pilot reports police say the car burglars targeted unlocked motor vehicles at daycares and health clubs in Glen Cove and West Rockport. Thieves stole purses, wallets and other valuables during the afternoon on January 2nd. Police remind motorists to always lock their doors and never leave keys or valuables inside vehicles.

 

Drug Trafficking Sentence

(Portland) A New Hampshire man is sentenced to 7 years in federal prison for trafficking fentanyl into southern Maine and for possessing firearms. The U.S. attorney’s office reports an FBI Task Force investigated 35-year-old Justin English for trafficking drugs in York. Investigators seized 200 grams of fentanyl, four firearms, and money from English’s apartment in 2018. English pleaded guilty last year. He also forfeited over $28-thousand-dollars in cash and over $45-thousand dollars worth of collectible coins to the government.
