Year of the Bird Festival in Deer Isle – Stonington

Celebrate the Year of the Bird on Fri through Sun May 18 – 20 at Deer Isle-Stonington. This three-day event combines birding on foot, by boat and by air in a small plane!  This festival offers two dozen activities starting Friday with a boat trip out to Swan’s Island, followed by a special birder’s supper at the Whale’s Rib Tavern that includes a talk by Bob Duchesne, founder of the Maine Birding Trail. Two trips to Seal Island offer sightings of Atlantic puffins, razorbills, northern gannets and others. Kids will enjoy the live owl demo and learning how to use binoculars at Island Heritage Trust.
