Bucksport School Threat
(Bucksport) –Students at Bucksport High School got sent home early yesterday after school officials and police determined there was a threat at the school. The Ellsworth American reports the specifics of the threat are not yet known. Superintendent Josh Tripp and deputy Police Chief David Winchester said a safety concern was received by a school official. It’s not known how the matter was communicated. Classes were dismissed around 10:45 AM.
Weekend Bangor Bus Service Discontinued
(Bangor) – The Community Connector bus serving the Bangor area will stop running on Saturdays on a temporary basis. City officials report to Star 97.7 the decision is due to a worker shortage. Assistant City Manager Courtney O’Donnell says they’re looking to hire qualified workers as soon as possible. The Saturday routes have the least ridership, and the discontinuance will also close the transit center.
Virus Issues
(Augusta) – West Nile Virus has started showing up in Maine in both birds and humans. The Maine Center for Disease Control has released its weekly report, showing 18 wild birds tested positive for West Nile and two for Triple-E. One of the positive birds was a bald eagle in Washington County. West Nile also shown up in two humans during 2024.
Bangor Woman Dead
(Bangor) – A Bangor woman is dead, found at her home by a co-worker who went to find out why she didn’t show up for work. Police responded to a Larkin Street home after the discovery, and detectives spent much of the day on the scene. The woman’s name has yet to be publicly released. The Medical Examiner’s office will perform an autopsy to determine how she died. Neighbors say police had responded to the same home last week after an apparent dispute.
Island Explorer 10 Millionth
(Bar Harbor) – For 25-years now the Island Explorer Bus System has transported tourists and workers around Mt. Desert Island and Acadia National Park. Yesterday saw one passenger honored as the estimated 10-millionth passenger. Beth Gearhart of Pennsylvania was headed to sand beach when the bus diverted to the Village Green in Bar Harbor for a ceremony. The unsuspecting passenger received gifts from Friends of Acadia and LL Bean.
Loader Death
(Dayton) – OSHA is investigating a fatal accident at a gravel business in Western Maine. State Police say 43-year old Cory Maddox of East Waterboro died after a front end loader struck him at the business where he worked in Dayton. Investigators say there does not appear to be any criminal activity involved. The incident took place shortly after noon on Monday at Dayton Sand and Gravel.

The Red Sox are officially eliminated from postseason play after falling to the Blue Jays 6-to-1 last night while Detroit and Kansas City posted wins. The Sox are off tonight and will play Tampa Bay to end the season this weekend.
