Three Killed in Head-On Crash

(Raymond)  Three people died Wednesday morning when a pickup truck crossed the center line and struck an SUV head on near the Gray-Raymond town line.  The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office reports an initial investigation found 56 yo Gregory Logue of Windham, the driver of the pickup, had been driving erratically when he passed a vehicle, went off the road, then pulled back onto the road, crossing the center line and hitting the SUV.  The two people in the SUV are identified as Tamara and Arthur Harmon, both 80, from Raymond.  All three people were killed.  The crash happened around 11 a.m. yesterday.  Egypt Road was closed for several hours while authorities investigated.

Three Arrested in Death of Missing Bangor Man

(Bangor)  Three men from Penobscot County are under arrest this morning in connection with the body of a missing man found earlier this month.  The Bangor Daily News reports 27 yo Dylan Caruso of Corinth was last seen September 30th in Bangor.  His body was found October 23rd in a wooded area in Exeter.  The medical examiner ruled his death a homicide.  35 yo Kenneth Creamer of Exeter is charged with murder and is being held without bail at the Penobscot County Jail.  Three others are accused of hindering apprehension or prosecution.  31 yo Dylan Belanger of Corinth and 31 yo Dylan Boyce of Exeter have been arrested.  Police are searching for a fourth individual, 32 yo Holden Melvin of Charleston.

Student Mock Election Results

(Augusta)  On Tuesday, students from 138 schools across Maine participated in a mock election, and the results are in.  In the Presidential race, the Trump/Vance ticket bested Harris/Walz – with 52% voting Republican, 40.8% Democrat.  The race for U.S. Senate was an easy win for Independent Incumbent Angus King, who captured a little over 43% of the vote, besting Republican Demi Kouzounas who garnered 23.9%.  The race to represent the First Congressional District was close, with Democrat Incumbent Chellie Pingree capturing 40.9% to Republican Ronald Russell’s 38.6%.  It was even closer in District 2, with Democrat Incumbent Jared Golden claiming the win at 49.3% to Republican Austin Theriault’s 48.8%.

(Augusta)  Tuesday was Mock Election Day in 138 schools across the state, and the results came in late yesterday morning from Secretary of State Shenna Bellows’s Office.  In the race for President, the Republican ticket of Donald Trump and JD Vance won with 52% of the vote to Democrats Kamala Harris and Tim Walz’s 40.8%.  But the Republicans’ win stopped there.  In the race for US Senate, Independent Incumbent Angus King captured an easy win – 43% to Republican Demi Kouzounas’s 23.9%.  The race for Congressional District 1 went to Incumbent Chellie Pingree, a Democrat, with 40.9% to Republican Ronald Russell’s 38.6%.  The race for Congressional District 2 went to Incumbent Democrat Jared Golden over Republican Austin Theriault by just half a percentage point – 49.3% to 48.8%.

Clinton to Campaign for Harris in Maine

(Maine)  A high profile Democrat will be in Maine this week campaigning for Presidential candidate Kamala Harris.  Although the campaign didn’t disclose an exact location, Former President Bill Clinton will be in Southern Maine Friday to stump for Harris and running mate Tim Walz.  Previous high profile supporters who visited Maine on the Dems’ behalf include first gentleman Doug Emhoff and Walz’s wife Gwen.

L.L. Bean Named “Retailer of the Year”

(Freeport)  L.L. Bean has been named the 2024 Retailer of the Year by the Retail Association of Maine.  The 112 year old, Freeport-based retailer was cited as having met the highest standards of excellence in the past year by improving sales, improving the work environment for employees, and for contributing its resources to the community.  The group said the store also received the honor for demonstrating dedication to customer service, innovation, and community impact.

Ski Area for Sale

(Maine)  Big Moose Mountain Ski Area in Maine is for sale for a cool $27 Million.  Powder dot com reports the resort first opened in 1963 as Big Squaw Mountain and has since had numerous owners.  By 2010, Big Moose had fallen into disrepair and was shuttered, with owner James Confalone ordered to pay close to four million into an escrow account for allegedly failing to properly maintain Big Moose and illegally harvesting timber on the property.  A group known as Friends of the Mountain began operating the ski area as a nonprofit in 2012, investing a million dollars in an effort to maintain the area.  According to their website, Big Moose will operate this coming season with 2024-25 season passes available.

(Maine)  It’s a snow-go for Big Moose Mountain Ski Area in Maine.  In spite of being listed for sale, the Friends of the Mountain website reports Big Moose will operate this coming season with 2024-25 passes available.  Friends of the Mountain took over the area as a nonprofit and invested a million dollars after the property fell into disrepair under owner James Confalone, who purchased the ski area in 1995.  Powder dot com reports the resort first opened as Big Squaw Mountain in 1963 and went through multiple owners – five to be exact – between 1987 and 1984.  The current asking price is a cool $27 Million.  And it’s all downhill from there …

Bar Harbor Estate Sale to Benefit SPCA

(Bar Harbor)  If you love estate sales, you’re really going to find this one to be absolutely purr-fect.  This Saturday and Sunday from 9 to 3 each day, the public is invited to 18 Roberts Avenue in Bar Harbor.  The previous owners of the three floor, six bedroom, six bath home are selling off everything and donating 100% of the proceeds to the SPCA of Hancock County in Trenton.  Dog-gone it, that’s a good deal and fur-ry much appreciated.  Contact the SPCA for more details.

CoverMe Open Enrollment Begins Friday

(Augusta)  (((Sfx Creepy 3  :04)))  Know what’s really scary?  Not having insurance.  Beginning tomorrow, residents can enroll in Maine’s online health insurance marketplace.  Anyone not covered through Medicare, MaineCare, or their employer can find health and dental plans on the website, CoverME dot gov.  The enrollment period for 2025 runs through mid January; but consumers who want coverage to begin the first of the year, need to choose a plan by mid-December.  More than 60,000 Mainers enrolled in marketplace plans last year, with most eligible for tax credits which, on average, significantly reduced their premiums.
