Three-Car Collision in Camden
Two people were taken to the hospital Friday evening after a three-car collision on Route 1 in Camden. According to the Pen Bay Pilot, Just after 7:30PM all three cars were traveling northbound after one vehicle failed to stop at a red light. The paper says another car behind the vehicle that failed to stop also did not stop and a car traveling from the right did the same. The Camden fire chief told the paper five people needed medical help; however only two were transported to Pen Bay Hospital in Rockport for non-critical injuries.
Police investigating incident in Corinth
Emergency responders were sent to a residence in Corinth. According to WABI News, Early Sunday morning caution tape and police vehicles surrounded a home on Main Street. As of 11:00 a.m. Maine State Police could only tell WABI they were working with partner agencies in an active and ongoing investigation. Adding that there are “no specific threats to the public known at this time.”
Midcoast Villager going to court for legal documents on Union paddleboarder murder
A midcoast newspaper is heading to court over legal documents regarding the murder of Sunshine ‘Sunny’ Stewart earlier this Summer, that’s according to the Bangor Daily News. The Midcoast Villager is seeking records of calls made within two and a half years before the killing to the home where the 17-year-old suspect, Deven Young, was living with his family. The Bangor Daily News reports a legal appeal was filed on Friday in the Kennebec County Superior Court, and the Villager accused the sheriff’s office of failing to adequately respond to information requests made under Maine’s Freedom of Access Act. The paper says in response, the sheriff’s office has “failed even to confirm whether responsive records exist, much less provide all or any of them — even in redacted form,” according to the legal action claims.
Bucksport restaurant announces closure
The owner of a Sicilian-inspired restaurant that opened in downtown Bucksport last year announced their closure. According to the Facebook post, the owners of ‘My Buddy’s Place’ said “It is with heavy hearts that we share we will be closing our doors on September 30, 2025, due to a variety of ongoing issues, one of them being health,” that’s according to the Bangor Daily News. While the hard decision came about Sunday, the owner and chief also made clear they anticipate to re-open in a new location in the future.
Sri Lankan restaurant closing in Ellsworth
And more on the restaurant scene, a Sri Lankan restaurant in Ellsworth announced their closure in Downtown Ellsworth. The Bangor Daily news says Serendib will be closing on December 20th.The owners of the popular restaurant announced their closure on Facebook stating the news came with mixed emotions. The owners tell the publication it’s been pure joy bringing this cuisine to the area and now they’re focusing on their next chapter in Ellsworth.
Cooper Flagg & family travel back to Maine to celebrate Kelly Bowman Flagg
It was a big weekend for Maine phenom Cooper Flagg and his family as they traveled back to their home state to celebrate his mother, Kelly Bowman Flagg. She and nine others were inducted into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame in a ceremony at Gracie Theater on Husson University’s campus. Bowman Flagg tells WABI how special it is to be a part of Maine’s sports community. She told WABI quote “The state of Maine is the village that raised me and taught me so much. The support of small-town community, and the support that we feel now (as a family) from the state of Maine, is incredible,” said Bowman Flagg. The ceremony is scheduled to air on Maine Public Television on Thurs. Oct. 2 at 8 p.m.
Spooky fans lined the streets to say ‘Happy Birthday’ to Stephen King
Fans of Spooky literature celebrated the King of Horror on Sunday. On Columbia Street in Bangor, fans dressed up to pay homage to Stephen King at a creepy carnival according to WABI. One of the organizers says volunteers to put on the carnival flew in from all over the country even as far as Wisconsin. And while Maine is known for blueberries, lobster and more, these fans were more than happy to celebrate this horror Icon from Maine. King celebrated his 78th birthday.
Two people dead after apartment fire in Portland
Officials say two people were killed early Sunday in an apartment fire that broke out at a three-story building on St. Lawrence Street in Portland that’s according to WABI News. They say the Portland Fire Department responded to the fire just after two a.m. All four units in the building were occupied at the time. When crews got there they say there was heavy fire on the building’s back porch. They say evacuation efforts were already underway when responders got there. Firefighters found two people dead inside the apartment. Their bodies were taken to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where autopsies will be conducted to determine the cause of death and confirm their identities. The fire remains under investigation.
5K raising awareness on substance recovery sees record attendance
September is recognized as National Recovery Month, and the return of one special 5-K saw many helping to support substance recovery.The 10th annual Race for Recovery 5K began at the Bangor Waterfront Sunday morning, spanning down Main St. and along the Waterfront Park according to WABI news. This event is the biggest yearly fundraiser for Wellspring, which has helped provide treatment for substance use disorder for over 40 years in the Bangor community. Organizers say the event helps to bring the community together to help raise money, as well as reduce societal stigmas surrounding substance recovery. This year saw over 150 registrations–beating out last year’s 100–becoming Wellspring’s biggest 5K to date.
