Acres burned in wildfire in Hancock
According to the Ellsworth American, more than a dozen area fire departments responded to a wildfire in Hancock on Sunday.
The publication says the flames burned one acre of wildland on Simon’s Pond Road.
Authorities got the blaze under control at around 4PM and nobody was injured in the incident.
Hancock Fire Chief Chris Holmes says the cause is not confirmed yet but it was possibly started by someone camping in the woods.
Boil order notice in Ellsworth
Ellsworth officials say a boil water order is in effect for a select area of Ellsworth.
Due to the possibility of unsafe water while crews repair a broken water main Ellsworth Water Department consumers on Hancock Street which is in the intersections of Maine Street and Pine Street are advised to boil their water at least five minutes before consuming, washing food or brushing teeth.
The order will remain in effect until further notice.
One dead and one injured in Corinth incident
An update to a story brought to you yesterday by WABI.
One person is dead and one other injured after police say they were shot in Corinth early Sunday morning.
WABI reports Maine State Police say they responded to multiple calls of gunshots around 272 Main Street.
When they arrived they found one man outside who was wounded and 46-year-old Scott Roberts of Glenburn dead inside.
His death was ruled a homicide.
They’re asking anyone with information to contact Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit North at 207-973-3700, extension 9, and request to speak with Detective Jake Ferland.
Race car driver taken to ICU after crash on Hermon Speedway
A scary moment in Hermon over the weekend.
A driver was injured Saturday night at Speedway 95 and was transported to the hospital, that’s according to the Bangor Daily News.
Cameron Childs was injured during a Streets Stocks race after his throttle stuck wide open, meaning extremely high RPM’s and dangerous driving conditions.
The track manager and director who is also an EMT and member of the Hermon volunteer rescue and first aid tells Bangor Daily News that Childs was transported to Northern Light Eastern Maine medical center.
New Balance factory opens in Skowhegan
There’s a New Balance in Skowhegan.
The factory officially opened its newly expanded facility on Monday.
WABI reports employees, executives, and more gathered to celebrate the $65 million project.
The company hopes to bring in 200 jobs with their capability of making over one million shoes a year.

One year since New Sweden team went missing
Tuesday marks one year since the disappearance of a New Sweden teenager.
Stefanie Damron was 14-years-old when she was last seen by family members on Sept. 23, 2024.
Since then, despite extensive searches by volunteers and law enforcement, there has been no sign of Damron.
State Police and the FBI have offered a $15,000 reward for her return.
In efforts to locate Damron, community members have come together to create ‘Friends of Stefanie.’
Gathering honors Hancock County Deputy Luke Gross
Tuesday marks the fourth anniversary of the death of Hancock County Deputy Luke Gross.
He was hit by a vehicle while investigating a crash in Trenton on Sept.23, 2021.
In honor of Gross, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office hosted a roadside gathering.
Officials started the gathering at 5AM this morning in the area of Hunter’s Way on Bar Harbor Road in Trenton.
Officials planned to close the road for a few minutes to ensure everyone’s safety.
Mark your calendars for 5th annual Ride for a Cure
The 5th annual Ride for a Cure cancer awareness ATV ride will be a weekend event this year according to the Ellsworth American.
The paper says Host Acadia Area ATVers will kick off the two-day event on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 4 p.m. with music provided by Star 97.7.
Food trucks will offer dinner, snacks and drinks from 5-8 p.m.
A ceremony to remember, honor and celebrate cancer patients will be at 7 p.m and so much more.
On Sunday, Oct. 5, ATVers are encouraged to decorate their machines and dress up.
The benefit ride is approximately 80 miles. Registration begins at 8 a.m. at Acadia Area ATVers Club, 3 Wyman Road, Hancock, and riders will depart at 9 a.m. on the Downeast Sunrise Trail.
Participants are encouraged to register in advance at www.rideforacure.net.

Battle in court continues in lawsuit again owners of Bangor Mall
Over eight hours of testimony in a Penobscot County Courtroom and still no ruling in the lawsuit against the owners of the Bangor Mall.
Multiple people took the stand Monday, according to WABI news.
The owners of companies working with Namdar Realty Group, the company that manages the mall, spoke on their working relationships.
The judge even heard from the general manager of the Bangor Mall, Dawn Lazore, citing her duties handling tenants, contracts, jobs that need to be done.
Lazore did confirm in court a company should start taking down the Bangor Mall sign that needs repairs in the next 10 days.
80-year-old becomes the oldest woman to complete Appalachian Trail
One woman has proven you can reach new heights no matter your age.
Betty Kellenberger of Michigan made it to Katahdin’s summit on September 12th becoming the oldest woman to do so by six years according to WABI news.
She says it’s not her first time attempting the feat after first learning about it in school.
As she completed the trail this year, Kellenberger tells us she was never out to set any records.
She adds to not let the fear of others stop you, and to build a memory for old age, not stopping until you know you can’t do more.
