Fire Marshal’s office investigating suspicious device after traffic stop
A suspicious device is being investigated by state authorities after a traffic stop in Newcastle.
On Monday, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office stopped a car in response to a traffic violation.
The driver was arrested on scene and taken to the Lincoln County Jail on an outstanding arrest warrant.
As police investigated the vehicle they located appeared to resemble an explosive device.
The Maine State Police Bomb Team and Fire Marshal’s office were called to the scene however it was secured and removed for further evaluation.
State police have not identified those involved and the investigation is ongoing.
Gov. Janet Mills in Caribou for ribbon cutting of Maine’s first Amazon Delivery Station
In Caribou, Gov. Janet Mills will deliver remarks and cut the ribbon at the opening of Maine’s first Amazon delivery warehouse.
The new facility has a four-hour service radius from Caribou, will support deliveries in Bangor and Eastern Maine and will improve last-mile delivery across the northern part of the state.
After the ribbon cutting, Mills will visit the Saint John Valley to meet with municipal leaders, farmers and community leaders.
She will also make her way to Twin Rivers Paper company and a family farm in Fort Kent impacted by spruce budworm.
9-year-old boy hit by car while walking to school
On Monday morning, the Bath Police Department says a nine-year-old boy was hit by a car while walking to school, according to the Bangor Daily News.
Police say a 32-year-old woman was driving her Jeep at about 8:15 AM when she turned left onto Richardson Street and hit the boy in a crosswalk.
The boy was knocked to the ground however police believe his injuries aren’t serious or life threatening.
The crash remains under investigation.
Workshop to teach drought management for Maine blueberry farmers
After witnessing severe drought conditions across the state, Hancock and Washington county officials are coming together to support their farmers.
According to the Ellsworth American, the Hancock County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Washington County equivalent will launch the first ever “Better Soil, Better Berries” Blueberry Field Day at 3 Damon Road in Charlotte Oct. 8.
Organizers tell the paper this will bring together blueberry, soil and farming experts to help those representing the over 500 blueberry farms in Maine.

FBI Boston warns the public of increase in Gold Bar and Bulk Cash courier scams
The Boston Division of the FBI is warning the public about an increase in the number of reports on scammers using couriers to collect large amounts of cash or gold bars.
The FBI says most of the victims are elderly and the scams have resulted in significant financial loss.
Criminals are conducting grandparent, government impersonation or tech support scams to collect cash and they may give the victim a code or password to identify whether the courier is the person to whom the funds should go to.
In just the past two years, 16 victims in Maine lost over two-million dollars.
If you fall victim to a scam, report the fraud or attempted fraud to the FBI’s internet crime complaint center.
Wiscasset could welcome a large data center
A midcoast town could welcome a large data center on Old Ferry Road, according to the Bangor Daily News.
The paper reports town officials said the site could strengthen the town’s tax base and establish new tech jobs at the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners meeting on Sept. 16.
Bill Maloney, a Wiscasset select board member says the data center could be a win win.
Town Manager Dennis Simmons told the Bangor Daily News the town’s new proposal would outline a workforce housing development on Bath Road.
Bar Harbor gearing up for Fall visitors
Bar Harbor’s tourism season has extended well into the fall keeping businesses open later into the year, that’s according to WABI news.
After a lack of cruise ships this year, a surge of visitation for fall colors would really be a boost.
The executive director of the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce tells WABI a number of events are geared for the Fall crowd including a marathon and a growing music festival that has doubled in vendor participants since last year.

Head to Bangor’s Children’s Dyslexia Center for family fun at their Read-A-Thon
A non-profit in Bangor specializes in targeting youth, parents, and even Maine educators, helping each person create a unique chapter in their own story.
The Bangor Children’s Dyslexia Center will host their Read-A-Thon this Saturday, September 27 from 9AM to 2PM in the Bangor Masonic Center, that’s according to WABI news.
A board member says they often do a walk-a-thon, however they wanted to host a family fun event that’ll feature authors, food, a bounce house and more for locals to engage in fun and important conversation.
Less than 35% of children ages 8 to 18 read for entertainment, according to the center.
They’re asking anyone attending to give what they’re able to the crucial service in the region.
The center has served over 600 students and they’re going on their 27th year of service.
