Author Catherine Schmitt in Bar Harbor

For many years the first salmon caught in the Penobscot River was given to the President of the United States, but with political turmoil and a drop in the number of salmon, the tradition ended in 1992. Catherine Schmitt chronicles this tradition as well as the history of the Atlantic salmon, salmon fishing and the Penobscot in her book “The President’s Salmon.” She will be at the Jesup Memorial Library on Thurs Sept 17th at 7 pm to talk about the book & answer questions.
