October 14, 2015 @ 10:30 am - 1:00 pm

MACHIAS, Maine — Regina Grabrovac of Healthy Acadia, the Washington County Gleaning Project, and Washington County Farm to School will be hosting a hands-on cider pressing and apple information event. The first pressing and short talk are geared specifically for young children and will be held on the mall at the University of Maine at Machias at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14.

At 11 a.m. she will provide a more in-depth talk about apples in Washington County,  letting people taste different local varieties, and conducting a second apple press. Grabrovac encourages folks to bring apples to press and containers to bring home the raw cider. Apples can also be brought for identification. Apples for pressing don’t have to be pretty, they just shouldn’t be mushy, she said.

This event is free and open to the public.
