On Wednesday, February 10, 2016 MDI Hospital’s Community Dental Center in Southwest Harbor will take part in the The American Dental Association’s (ADA) 14th national Give Kids A Smile® program. On Monday, February 22, The Maine Coast Community Dental Clinic in Ellsworth will do the same. Both dental centers will join dental professionals from across the nation to provide free oral health services to children and adolescents from underserved families.
Free services on this day for children from first tooth to 18 years of age will include oral hygiene instruction, cleaning, and fluoride varnish from registered dental hygienists, with the possibility of further examination and treatment from Layne Whiteley, DDS.
To receive services you must make an appointment, and space is limited. For more information, or to make an appointment for your child at Community Dental Center in Southwest Harbor or The Maine Coast Community Dental in Ellsworth for Give Kids A Smile, please call 667-0293.
Give Kids A Smile is the world’s largest oral health charitable program and an ADA access-to-care endeavor designed to encourage parents, health professionals and policymakers to address the year-round need for oral health care for all children. Each year, thousands of the nation’s dentists, dental team members and many volunteers from the community provide free oral health care services to children from low-income families across the country.
The ADA’s Health Policy Resources Center estimates that about 8.7 million children are expected to gain some form of dental benefit from the Affordable Care Act, which will reduce by approximately 55 percent the number of children without dental benefits.
