Healthy Acadia is excited to offer a free National Diabetes Prevention Program class, in partnership with Maine Coast Memorial Hospital (MCMH), starting on Wednesday, October 21st from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The class will run for a year, meeting weekly for 6 months and transitioning to once monthly sessions for the remainder of the year. The class will be held in the Medical Office Building at MCMH.
Maine Coast Memorial Hospital currently offers 3 daytime Diabetes Prevention Program classes throughout the year. Through the collaborative effort, Healthy Acadia is offering the evening class as an additional opportunity for community members to benefit from this popular and successful program.
The National Diabetes Prevention Program is an evidence-based lifestyle change program for preventing type 2 diabetes, led by the US CDC. The year-long program helps participants make real lifestyle changes such as eating healthier, incorporating physical activity into their daily lives, and improving problem-solving and coping skills.
Participants meet with a trained lifestyle coach and a small group of people who are making lifestyle changes to prevent diabetes. Classes meet weekly for 6 months and then slowly transition to once monthly for the rest of the year.
