Friends in Action and Healthy Acadia are pleased to offer a free four-class “Eat Smart, Live Strong” series for Hancock County senior community members. The series will be held on Mondays from November 30 to December 21. It will offer participants a fun and relaxed environment to learn about ways to cook healthy on a budget and integrate more physical activity into their lives. The classes will be held at the Moore Community Center in Ellsworth; registration is required.
“Eat Smart, Live Strong is a great training that helps older adults support their health and prevent or delay diet-related disease,” stated Nina Zeldin of Healthy Acadia, who will be co-teaching the class. “We are excited to be offering these classes in partnership with Friends in Action.
Seniors joining this free class series can expect to enjoy a dynamic learning setting. In the classes, participants will learn how to set and reach personal goals around fruit and vegetable intake and physical activity, how to healthfully adapt favorite recipes, and how to use cost-saving techniques to extend their food budget. Classes will begin and end with fun exercises that are easy to replicate at home.
To register for this class series, contact Friends in Action at 664-6016 or email Nina at [email protected] . For more information on Eat Smart, Live Strong or other nutrition education classes and events offered by Healthy Acadia, or to volunteer with Healthy Acadia’s Nutrition Education Initiative, please contact Nina Zeldin at 667-7171 or [email protected].
Healthy Acadia’s Nutrition Education Initiative classes are made possible through Maine SNAP-Ed. Maine SNAP-Ed is funded by the USDA’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, which is administered by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and implemented through a contract with the University of New England (UNE).
