The Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Maine will begin rehearsals for this season’s production of “Patience” on Tuesday, Oct 6, from 7 to 9 pm at the Moore Community Center, 125 State Street in Ellsworth. All are welcome to join the society and perform onstage in the show. No audition is required. Auditions for leading roles will be held at the end of October. Rehearsals at the Moore Community Center will continue every Tuesday night through Dec. 15. Rehearsals in January will be held on Tuesday nights and Saturday and Sunday daytimes, leading to performances Feb. 5-7 and Feb. 12-15 on the Stanley Subaru Stage at The Grand Auditorium in Ellsworth.
In conjunction with the season’s first rehearsals, the society will hold auditions for the Lee Patterson Scholarship for Classical Voice Training, open to all high-school age students. The society will award two $500 scholarships to be used for private voice lessons with a teacher of the winner’s choosing. Recipients agree to sing in this year’s production of “Patience.” Auditions for the scholarships will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 20 and 27, at 8:30 p.m. (toward the end of the evening’s regular rehearsal). Those auditioning should sing one prepared piece from either the classical repertoire or a Gilbert and Sullivan show, and provide a copy of the music. An accompanist will be provided. Sign-ups for audition times will take place at the first two rehearsals of the season: Oct. 6 and 13.
