The Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony on Monday, May 26h, at 10 a.m. on the Village Green. This year’s ceremony will honor both the service of the town’s veterans and the region’s deep cultural roots. Keynote speaker will be Dr. Duane Tomah, the youngest fluent speaker of the Passamaquoddy language whose mission is to preserve native language, history, and culture. Dr. Tomah’s efforts include translating 130-year-old wax cylinder recordings for the Library of Congress, some of the earliest known field recordings of Indigenous voices.
