Porter Memorial Library and its board of trustees are scheduling a series of focus group sessions to be held in and around Machias. Facilitated by Jane Haskell of the University of Maine, the library invites the public to discuss issues and opportunities facing our library. All opinions are welcome from community members, some who may be regular library patrons, and others who may never have visited the library.

Our intent is simple: to listen carefully in order to develop objectives that are responsive to community expectations. Libraries must continually change and evolve with the times. Focus group sessions are brief, no more then 60-90 minutes and are conversational allowing everyone to voice concerns and impressions, which taken collectively, can help us adapt and plan for library services that meet community needs. The sessions will occur at several different times, to seek community input and each meeting will focus on the same questions.

The first session is set for November 5, 2015, and will be held in the Community Room at the Machias Savings Bank starting at 6:00 p.m. Refreshments will be provided. While it is not necessary to register, anyone who would like to sign up for this focus group session can contact library director Lee McBride at 255-3933. Dates of future sessions will be announced.

The library also plans to hold a listening session later in the fall with school students to obtain opinions from the younger members of our community. For more information, questions or comments about the focus groups, contact Sarah Dedmon at < [email protected] > or Lee McBride at  < [email protected] >

Consider helping us today to make Porter Memorial Library a better place tomorrow.
