Augusta – Senator Brian Langley (R-Hancock), Chair of the newly-created Task Force on School Leadership, has announced its first meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 6th, from 9 AM to 3 PM. The meeting will take place at Hancock County Technical Center.
The panel is made up of legislators, educators, and administrators, from both rural and urban school districts. It was created through a legislative resolve sponsored by Senator Langley, and is tasked with conducting a comprehensive study on excellence in school leadership in prekindergarten to grade 12 public schools.
“Study after study has shown the importance of gifted leaders in ensuring schools rise to their top potential and best serve students, regardless of what the school’s demographics and socioeconomic situation is,” said Senator Langley, who serves as Chair of the Legislature’s Education and Cultural Affairs Committee. “Maine certainly has many talented people in leadership roles, but this task force will show us where we can fill in the gaps and do more to help our students.”
Further meetings for the task force will be held but have not yet been scheduled.
Senator Langley is currently serving his third term in the Maine Legislature. He taught culinary arts at Hancock County Technical Center and now owns Union River Lobster Pot in Ellsworth.
