Stories of Deer Isle-Stonington Basketball at Stonington Opera House

The Community Advisory Board of Opera House Arts will throw open the doors to the theatre for an evening celebrating the rich heritage of Deer Isle-Stonington basketball on Wednesday, Jan 27, from 6 to 8 pm. Come on out to enjoy pizza and basketball memories.

Players and coaches from some of the more successful teams over the last 30 years will talk about what it takes to get to the championship game and share the excitement of playing on the auditorium floor. The evening will feature film clips, including the girls’ state championship team of 1987, the boys’ Eastern Maine championship teams of 1989 and 1997 and the boys’ state championship team of 2007.

Players and coaches will also be telling their experiences playing for coach Joe Mesi, who coached for 14 years from the late 1970s until 1992, inspiring a high level of competition in all who played for him and changing the landscape of Deer Isle-Stonington basketball.

There will be time for audience participation in the discussion, either comments or questions. This is a free event. For more information, call 367-2788.
