The Great Maine Bike Swap Set for Orono on April 12

The Bicycle Coalition of Maine will be hosting the 15th annual Great Maine Bike Swap at the University of Maine’s New Balance Student Recreation and Fitness Center on April 12, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Swap offers a great way for people to buy affordable, used bicycles and sell bicycles that they no longer need.

Hundreds of bicycles of all types will be for sale, including mountain bikes, road bikes, classic cruisers, kids’ bikes and hybrids. A large test riding area will allow shoppers to try out bicycles and volunteers will be on hand to help with pricing and bike fitting.

Admission is $3, with free admission for students at UMaine and the University of Southern Maine, as well as children 12 and under.

The Swap also features a quick and easy online bike registration system that will make it easier to sell a bike. Sellers will be able to register their bikes online before the event through a simple online form that will save time and cut down on drop-off lines.

Those wanting to sell bicycles should register the bikes online at bikemaine.org/swap and then drop them off at the New Balance Student Recreation and Fitness Center between 5 and 7 p.m. on Saturday April 11, or 8 and 9:30 a.m. on the day of the event. Saturday drop-off is highly encouraged to minimize wait times. A 15 percent commission on bike sales will support BCM’s work to improve bicycling in Maine.

The event is produced by the Bicycle Coalition in partnership with the University of Maine. The Orono Swap attracted over 700 people last year.
