The Washington Hancock Community Agency’s Supportive Services for Veterans Families program will host a Veterans’ Resource Fair on Saturday April 18th at the East Machias Town Hall on 571 Main St. The event will be open from 10 am to 2 pm, and will offer active duty service members, guard, reserve, veterans and their families the opportunity to ask questions about what services are available. Representatives from a wide array of national, state, and local organizations will be on hand to talk to veterans, share information and answer questions.
Veterans who attend the event will be able to get help with Veterans benefit questions and enrollment, VA Healthcare, social services, well water testing, SNAP (food stamp) application, Affordable Health Care Act questions, job search tips, spiritual guidance, housing assistance, food, mental health care or concerns, dental care, legal questions, fuel assistance, transportation, homelessness prevention, substance abuse prevention, housing, and more. Various legislative representatives and candidates will also be attending the event to listen to veteran’s concerns and issues. The Machias and Eastport Reiki Clinics will provide free Reiki sessions, which is a great way to relax. Finally, there will be the opportunity to learn how to train a dog to be a service dog in the Salute to Service Program.
Admission to the event is free. If required, limited transportation to and from the event can be arranged by calling 610-5937 before 4:30 pm on Friday, April 10th.
