August 22, 2016 @ 5:00 pm

The MDI Biological Laboratory is hosting an MDI Science Cafe event titled “What’s in Your Drinking Water?” on Monday, Aug 22, at 5 pm. The speaker is Bruce Stanton, Ph.D.  Water from up to 10 percent of residential wells in Maine has elevated arsenic levels, with that number reaching 60 percent in some towns in the coastal “arsenic belt.” While public water supplies are treated to reduce arsenic, private wells are not regulated. Even low levels of arsenic in drinking water have been linked to cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and reproductive and developmental problems.  This program is open to the public and free of charge.  For more information or to pre-register, visit www.mdibl.org/events.
