The Machias Bay Chamber is holding its annual Scarecrow Contest, October 1st through the 18th. To enter a scarecrow, you must live within 5 miles of Machias center, and you should call the Chamber to register: 255-4402. There are two categories: residential and business. First place winners will receive gift baskets full of local items.
