Stethoscope Open Golf Tournament in NE Harbor
The Mount Desert Nursing Association will hold their 5th Annual Stethoscope Open Golf Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 11 at the Northeast Harbor Golf Club. 9 a.m. shotgun start with a scramble format. Proceeds benefit MDNA patients and agency expenses. Entries close on Monday (9/6). To sign up, call 276-5184.

The Stockton Springs Community Library presents The Great Event, Saturday September 11th from 9 to 2 at the library and town office. In Southwest Harbor, the Wendell Gilley Museum invites kids in grades 4 to 6 for a morning of birdwatching, journaling, and drawing. Meet at the museum Saturday morning, September 11, at 9 o’clock, then head out for a guided bird walk that wraps up at noon. The event is free, but space is limited and registration is required at WendellGilleyMuseum.org.

The Ellsworth Moose Lodge is hosting a free cookout for first responders on Saturday, September 11th at noon, right at the Moose Lodge on Foster Street in Ellsworth. At the event, Lodge members will present 400 Tommy Moose stuffed animals to the Ellsworth Fire Department, Ellsworth P.D., Maine State Police Troop J, and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office. The plush animals are used to comfort children in stressful situations. For more information, call 664-5199.

The Searsport United Methodist Church Searsport, located on Main Street, is holding their next Thanksgiving-style Take Out dinner on Saturday, September 11th from 4 to 5:30 in the church vestry. This full meal, which includes homemade pie for dessert, is just ten dollars per person. No reservations are necessary.

The Ellsworth Historical Society welcomes Civil War historians, Diane Monroe Smith and Ned Smith of Holden, Maine as guest speakers at their meeting on Monday, September 13th, 7pm at the Chamberlain House located at 357 State Street in Ellsworth Falls. Their subject matter is telling the stories of Civil War soldiers whose graves they have visited throughout the State of Maine. They’ve written several Civil War themed books which will be on sale that evening.
