Farmers to Families Food Box Program
The Farmers to Families Food Box Program will hold food box distribution events in Hancock County on Tuesday, April 20, at the Acadia Gateway Center on Route 3 in Trenton and at the Bucksport United Methodist Church (3 River Road). Community members may pick up free food boxes on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 10 am in Trenton and 2 pm in Bucksport, until all boxes have been distributed. The Blue Hill Public Library will host an online program about composting on Tuesday, April 20, at 2 pm. Mark Hutchinson, a University of Maine Cooperative Extension professor, will share the basic how-tos of the compost process and the do’s and don’ts of using compost in home gardens. FREE LEAVES!! Woodlawn Museum in Ellsworth is holding its annual Spring Clean Up Day on Saturday, April 24th, from 8 until Noon. Volunteers are invited to help with lawn raking, garden clean-up, & trail work, and are asked to bring their own rake, gloves, and masks. Local high school students are encouraged to participate to earn community service hours!

Ellsworth Garden Club member and arborist, Tabatha White is offering free training sessions for those interested in participating in outdoor street tree surveys in Ellsworth this summer. Training begins on Saturday, April 24th at 10am. You'll be helping to inventory existing trees, plus identifying likely locations for planting additional trees. The Ellsworth Green Action Team will kick off the fourth annual citywide roadside clean-up from Sun April 25 through Sun May 2 at your own convenience. Sign-up for road segments and free trash bags at City Hall during regular business hours beginning Monday, April 19. Trash bags can be left on the road shoulder in safe, but visible locations.
