In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center and Healthy Acadia are sponsoring Know Your Lemons, a fun, interactive breast health education program on Thurs Oct 15 from noon to 1:15 pm using Zoom.  In this program, participants will learn in more detail what they need to know about: nine risk factors, 12 symptoms of breast cancer and six detection tools.  For more information and to register, call 664-0339 or email [email protected].

“Howl-O-Run” 5K Virtual Run/Walk

SPCA of Hancock County is hosting a virtual “Howl-O-Run” from Sat Oct 17 through Oct 31.  Registration for the 5K is $20.  The first 50 entrants get a commemorative t-shirt.  This is totally virtual, so you can run/walk on your own time.  Wear a costume and share a picture to enter into the photo contest.  Winners will be announced on Oct 31.  For more information, visit SPCAHancockCounty dot org.

Old Surry Village School Tour

The Old Surry Village School will reopen to the public on Sat Oct 17th from 9 to 2 pm. All are welcome to drop by the old school to see what’s new.  Now an official national historic landmark, this 1872 structure is one of the rare surviving two-room schoolhouses in Maine.  Admission is free and light refreshments will be available. Bottle Drive for SPCA

The SPCA of Hancock County is holding its October Bottle Drive this coming Saturday the 17th from 9 to noon. SPCA volunteers are collecting your returnables right at the shelter on Route 3 in Trenton.  Other drop off locations include the Franklin Veterans Club, Surry Store, Winter Harbor Co-op, and Machias Savings Bank in Bar Harbor. The Missions Committee of the Searsport First Congregational Church is holding an Old-Fashioned Ham and Baked Beans Take-Out Supper at the church's Curtis Hall on Saturday, October 17th from 4 till it's sold out.  Dinner includes ham, baked beans, cole slaw, brown bread, and 2 generously-sized cookies.
