Gary is a native of Southern California, who has escaped and his now hiding in Maine! (Shhh, don’t tell anyone)!
Gary wanted to be in broadcasting since he was about 8 years old and was influenced by Casey Kasem’s American Top 40 on Sundays in the 70’s.
After graduating from Cerritos High School, Gary joined the U.S. Army as an infantryman, and was a presence in Germany during the Cold War and when the Berlin Wall fell.
After attending a private college in Graham, Washington, Gary had an opportunity to first hit the airwaves as a guest host on a St. Louis radio station, shortly after 911.
While living in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Gary was able to get his own radio gig on AM 650 KGAB, where he hosted “Across America with Gary Freeman”, which was influenced by Charles Kuralt’s America television show.
Gary went fulltime on Cheyenne’s #1 News/Talk Radio Station, when hosting ‘KGAB Mornings with Gary Freeman’, where he interviewed people in the Wyoming State Legislature, local charities, and community influencers, and called play-by-play rodeo events when announcing “Rodeo on the Radio” during Cheyenne Frontier Days during the last full week in July.
From there, Gary worked in the Presque Isle market as the production manager for 3 local radio stations, hosted ‘Live on Location” events, and covered news and weather as well.
Gary is very excited to be a part of Star 97.7’s weekend line-up and All-Star Team, where he talks cool facts about the artists and songs, the best of Maine, weird news, his Top 5 of ‘anything’, and so much more.
Gary said, “I’m a huge fan of Star 97.7, not only for their great community engagement and promotion of local businesses, but I also think it has the best song format to showcase the memories of our lives and to help us relive those thrilling days of yesteryear!”
When Gary is not on the radio, he enjoys volunteering for American Legion causes, dancing, and spending time with his daughter Julia and his two dogs, Jack, and Emma.
