Hampden Driver ID’d

 

(Hampden) – A 45-year old man from Old Town was already dead when his truck crashed into a home in Hampden Monday morning.  Authorities identified the victim as Brian Fournier.  The investigation into Monday Morning’s crash continues, and the cause his Fournier’s death was not released.  Two people inside the home were not injured.

 

Car Hits Bar Harbor Biz

 

(Bar Harbor) – A sandwich shop on Main Street in Bar Harbor sustained substantial damage when a car crashed into it.  It happened at Melt yesterday morning.  WVII-TV reports an 18-year old woman from Ellsworth was attempting to back her car when she put the transmission into drive instead and plowed into the building.  No one was in the shop at the time, and the driver is uninjured.

 

RSU 24 Budget Approved

 

(Sullivan) – The budget for RSU 24 which covers numerous towns in Eastern Hancock County will rise by a million dollars, provided voters in the district validate the budget approval.  The Ellsworth American reports the $24.6 million dollar budget won approval at the district budget meeting in late May.  Voters will cast ballots at the validation referendum which coincides with next Tuesday’s state primary election.  Voters in all parties and those not enrolled may cast ballots in the validation referendum.

 

Waldoboro Woman Charged for Discharging Gun Inside Thomaston WalMart

 

(Thomaston)  A woman who allegedly discharged a handgun inside the Thomaston WalMart faces charges related to that May 10th incident.  The Pen Bay Pilot reports 34 year old Natasha Jackson of Waldoboro was issued a summons for reckless conduct with a firearm.  Jackson left the store following the incident, but the store’s surveillance video helped police identify her.  Jackson said the gun hammer cocked and accidentally discharged as she reached into her purse while walking down one of the aisles.  No one was injured, but the shot did leave a hole in the floor.

 

Lamoine Offers Safety Gear and Tips for Walkers

 

(Lamoine) The Aging Committee in Lamoine is urging folks who go out walking to wear something bright so motorists can see them no matter what time of day.   They’ve put together a reflective gear pack that includes straps and wrist bands.  A limited number of packets are available at the town hall during business hours and a  $5-dollar donation is suggested.

 

 

Robbins Lumber’s Mill Sells; May Not Remain a Mill

 

(Hancock) – A Waltham contractor has purchased the defunct Robbins Lumber mill complex in Hancock.  Elliot Jordan and Sons paid 2-and-a-half million dollars for the 100-acre property that has 22-buildings.  Maine Biz reports that the new owners will likely redevelop the property instead of bringing the lumber mill back to life.  No particular plans have been filed with the Town of Hancock.

 

June 16th is Maine Residents’ Day

 

(Maine)  June 16th is Maine Residents Day.  Maine residents receive free day use admission that day to Maine State Parks and Historic Sites from 9 a.m. to closing.  Free admission does not apply to Acadia National Park, Baxter State Park, the Penobscot Narrows Observatory in Prospect, but admission to Fort Knox Historic Site will be free that day.  The Bureau of Parks and Lands has more information on the free admissions for Father’s Day.

 

 

MSM to Host Sunbeam Open House

 

(NE Harbor)  Maine Seacoast Mission’s vessel, the Sunbeam, will host an open house next Tuesday, June 11th, while docked in the Northeast Harbor Marina.  Visitors are invited to tour the 74 foot flagship vessel between 4:30 and 6:30 that evening to learn more about the outer islands and the difference MSM’s programs make in those communities.  The ship travels with a full time nurse who offers vaccination clinics, a network of eldercare facilities, healthcare checkups, and connects residents to mainland specialists.  In addition, the Mission provides special programs, such as an upcoming tour to help educate residents on domestic violence and abuse.  Other Open Houses are scheduled June 30, July 27, and August 29.

 

 

Satellite Launches

 

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Representatives for a Maine company that plans to send small satellites into space from the Northeast’s most rural state say they hope to start launches next year. Brunswick-based bluShift Aerospace hopes to turn Maine into a hub for the launching of commercial nanosatellites and has been making progress toward that goal for more than three years. Company officials said Tuesday that a successful recent round of fundraising means commercial suborbital launch is on track to start in 2025. CEO and founder Sascha Deri says bluShift can deploy satellites faster than their larger rivals, such as SpaceX.

 

Immigrant Resource Warning

 

(Portland) – Maine’s Attorney General has a warning to immigrants who need legal help in Maine.  Aaron Frey says scammers are offering legal service when they have no authorization to do so.  Frey reports to Star 97.7 that scammers have caused negative repercussions for immigrants by making legal mistakes.  Frey said the scammers often exploit immigrants for large sums of money and fail to file case, incorrectly file them, or file the cases with fraudulent information which jeopardizes immigration status.

 

 

Outdoor Fair

 

(Ellsworth) – An outdoor recreation fair is planned in Ellsworth this coming Saturday.  The City of Ellsworth reports to Star 97.7 the fair will include free outdoor gear repair, kayaking demonstrations and a chance to win an ATV. Maine Gear Share will repair slightly damaged gear like stuck zippers, nylon rips, and broken buckles.  The fair will run at Harbor Park in Ellsworth from 10am to 3pm.
