Manslaughter Arrest

 

(Owl’s Head) – Police in Louisiana have arrested a 23-year old man from Owl’s Head on manslaughter charges in connection with the death of a 22-month old child in Thomaston.  State Police spokeswoman Shannon Moss reports to Star 97.7 that Aziayh Scott is charged in Quayshawn Wilson’s death.  Scott had recently moved to Owl’s Head with his girlfriend and returned to Louisiana after the child died on May 29th.    The autopsy showed the toddler died from blunt force trauma.

 

Primary Election

 

(Undated) – Today is the last day to request an absentee ballot for next Tuesday’s primary election. Clerks across Maine report very little interest so far in the election which will pick major party candidates to appear on the ballot in November.  The state already held a presidential primary in March.  There are some contests in state legislative races, and Republican voters in both of the state’s congressional districts have two candidates to choose from to face incumbent Democrats in the fall.

 

Bar Harbor Town Meeting

 

(Bar Harbor) – Voters in Bar Harbor swiftly approved a $27.2 million dollar municipal budget at their annual town meeting this week.  The Mt. Desert Islander reports the budget has increased by nearly $4-million dollars compared to the current fiscal year.  Next Tuesday voters will select new town councilors.  Six people are running for two seats on the town council.

 

McBriearty Death

 

(Hampden) – A staunchly conservative activist from Hampden who frequently disrupted school committee meetings in numerous communities in the past several years has taken his own life.  The Bangor Daily News reports 53-year old Shawn McBreairty died this week by suicide.  McBreairty took on school board in Hampden, Hermon, Brewer and Ellsworth, accusing teachers of instructing in critical race theory and about books written by LGBTQ authors and authors of color.  He leaves behind a wife and twin daughters.

 

Freeport Fire – Lightning

 

(Freeport) – A strong line of thunderstorms roared through parts of Maine late yesterday afternoon, and in Freeport, lightning is suspected of causing two fires.  One of the blazes on Primrose Lane destroyed a two story garage.  Firefighters from at least seven communities responded to the scene and kept the blaze from damaging the home.  No injuries are reported.

 

Fugitive Arrest

 

(Indian Township) – A 42-year old Washington County man faces Gross Sexual Assault charges after federal marshals arrested him in Massachusetts.  The Marshals’ Service reports to Star 97.7 they tracked down Nakoma Polches to Mashpee Massachusetts after the Passamaquoddy Police Department requested assistance finding him.  He’s also charged as a fugitive from justice and will be extradited back to Maine to face the sex charges.

  • The Red Sox beat the Atlanta Braves 9-0 yesterday. Nick Pivetta allowed just one hit, and Rafael Devers slammed two home runs for the Sox.   Boston will face the White Sox in Chicago tonight.
  • The Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks open the NBA finals tonight in Boston.
